Selexid

What is it?

An antibacterial preparation and amidino penicillin available as white tablets containing 200mg of plvmecillinam hydrochloride marked 137 and with company logo.

Medical Uses

Infections of the urinary tract.

Dosage

Adults and children weighing over 40kg, cystitis attack, 2 tablets to start with then 1 tablet 3 times each day until 10 have been taken; recurrent bacterial infections, 2 tablets 3 to 4 times each day. Children, weighing less than 40kg, 20 to 40mg per kg of body weight each day in 3 to 4 divided doses.

Special Care

Pregnancy, kidney disorders.

Avoid Use

Stricture of oesophagus, obstruction in gastrointestinal tract, deficiency in carnitine ( a carrier substance found in heart and skeletal muscles and some other tissues that transports fatty acids across membranes of mitochondria (important cellular structures involved in energy production).

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Valproate, methotrexate, valproic acid.
