What is it?
An anti-emetic preparation and histamine analogue available as white tablets in 2 strengths containing 8mg and 16mg of betahistine, dihydrochloride, marked S and 256 or 267, respectively.
Medical Uses
Symptoms associated with Meniere's syndrome including hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in ears) and vertigo.
Dosage
16mg 3 times each day at first, taken with meals, then a maintenance dose of 24 to 48mg daily.
Special Care
Patients with peptic ulcer, bronchial asthma.
Avoid Use
Phaeochromocytoma (adrenal gland tumour).
Known Side Effects
Headache, gastrointestinal upset, itching, rash.
