Seretide Accuhaler

What is it?

A combined selective Bzagonist and corticosteroid preparation for use with breath-activated inhaler, available in 3 strengths, each delivering 50µg of salmeterol and 100, 250 or 500µg of fluticasone proprionate. Also, SERETIDE EVOHALER, for use with metered dose inhaler in 3 strengths delivering 25µg of salmeterol and 50, 125 or 250µg of fluticasone proprionate.

Medical Uses

Regular asthma treatment where long-acting lIz-agonist and inhaled corticosteroid is considered to be the best option for the patient.

Dosage

Adults, Accuhaler, 1 puff 2 times each day using lowest effective (corticosteroid) dose; Evohaler, 2 puffs twice each day. Children, Accuhaler only, aged over 4 years, 1 puff of lowest dose corticosteroid (Seretide 100) each day.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, serious heart and circulatory diseases, pulmonary tuberculosis, toxicity of thyroid gland, low blood potassium levels, diabetes. Children being treated long-term should have weight and height monitored; systemic effects and suppression of adrenal glands possible with long-term treatment - function must be checked. Treatment should be stopped in the event of paradoxical bronchospasm. In event of stress or surgery, additional steroid treatment may be needed.

Avoid Use

Children aged under 4 years.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

β-blockers.

Known Side Effects

Hoarseness, thrush affecting mouth and throat, tremor, muscle cramps/ pains, joint pains, palpitations, heart arrhythmias, allergic reactions, headaches. Any adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
