Sinthrome

What is it?

A coumarin anticoagulant preparation available as white tablets containing 1mg of nicoumalone, marked CG and AA.

Medical Uses

Thromboembolic disorders.

Dosage

Adults, 8 tol2mg on first day, 4 108mg on following day, then adjusted according to response.

Special Care

Breastfeeding, elderly, serious heart failure, liver disorders, high blood pressure, disorders of absorption from gastrointestinal tract, reduced protein binding. Risk of haematoma (accumulation of leaked blood which forms a solid mass within tissues) with intramuscular injections.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, patients who have had surgery or undergone labour in last 24 hours, liver or kidney disorders, serious high blood pressure, blood changes, inflammation of or leakage of fluid from pericardium, bacterial endocarditis. Patients who are uncooperative.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Quinidine, corticosteroids, NSAIDs, antibiotics, oral hypoglycaemics, cimetidine, sulfonamides, phenformin. Drugs affecting the halting of bleeding, liver enzymes, vitamin K, absorption - see manufacturer's literature.

Known Side Effects

Damage to liver, reversible hair loss, bleeding, allergic reactions, skin necrosis, anorexia.
