Solian
What is it?
An antipsyehotic preparation and benzamide, available as scored, white tablets in 3 strengths containing 50mg, 200mg and 400mg of amisulpride marked with name. Also, SOLIAN LIQUID, containing 100mg of amisulpride per ml. Used jbr: schizophrenia.
Dosage
Adults and children aged over 15 years, acute symptoms, 400 to 800mg each day in 2 divided doses at first, then adjusted according to response; daily maximum is 1200mg. Mixed positive and negative symptoms, adjust dose until positive symptoms are controlled. Schizophrenia where negative symptoms predominate, 50 to 300mg as a single daily dose.
Special Care
Elderly patients, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, kidney disorders. Women of child-bearing age must use effective contraception.
Avoid Use
Children aged under 15 years, pregnancy, breastfeeding, phaeochromocytoma (adrenal gland tumour), tumours that respond to prolactin (a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that stimulates milk production).
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Antihypertensives, depressants of the CNS, dopamine agonists.
Known Side Effects
Extrapyramidal effects (involuntary movements, muscle tone changes, abnormal posture), gastrointestinal upset, gain in weight, sleepiness, tardive dyskinesia (abnormal, involuntary muscle movements, often of the limbs, face and trunk), insomnia, anxiety, agitation, acute dystonia (severe impairment of muscle tone, often involving muscles of the neck, head or tongue). In rare cases, low blood pressure, slow heartbeat, allergic reactions, increased risk of neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Drug should be withdrawn if hyperthermia occurs.
