Somatuline LA
What is it?
A somatoststin analogue available as a powder in vials with diluent containing 30mg of lanreotide. Also, SOMATULINE AUTOGEL, a solution in pre-prepared syringes in 3 strengths containing 60, 90 and 120mg of lanreotide as acetate.
Medical Uses
Aeromegaly (abnormal growth of bones and tissues caused by excessive secretion of growth hormone by the pituitary gland), relief of symptoms of tumours in the neuroendocrine system.
Dosage
Adults, Somatuline LA, 30mg by intramuscular injection every 2 weeks at first, then alter frequency of dosing according to response, if necessary. Also, consult manufacturer's literature. Somatuline Autogel, patients who have not previously been treated with Somatuline LA: 60mg every 4 weeks to begin with given by deep subcutaneous injection. Patients who have previously been treated with Somatuline LA every 2weeks, same dose to begin with; previous LA every 10 days, 90mg every 4 weeks; previous LA every 7 days, 120mg every 4 weeks. All doses by deep subcutaneous injection and adjusted in all cases according to need and response, depending upon growth hormone and IGF-1 levels. Also, consult manufacturer's literature.
Special Care
Liver or kidney disorders - function should be monitored and Also, that of thyroid gland. Diabetes - monitor blood glucose rigorously. Echgraphy of gall bladder should be carried out before treatment starts and then twice yearly - risk of gallstones.
Avoid Use
Children.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Cyelosporin.
