Spiriva
What is it?
A bronchodilator and antimuscarinic preparation available as green capsules for use with breath- activated inhaler containing 18µg of tiotropium as bromide, marked with logo and T101.
Medical Uses
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - as maintenance.
Dosage
Adults, 1 capsule inhaled each day at same time using HandiHaler.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, enlarged prostate gland, obstructed bladder neck, glaucoma, moderate to severe kidney disorders.
Avoid Use
Children, allergy to atropine or related preparations.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Other anticholinergics.
Known Side Effects
Pharyngitis, dry mouth, constipation, sinusitis, thrush. In rare cases, atrial fibrillation (heart flutter), rapid heartbeat, retention of urine. Any adverses side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
