What is it?
An antihypertensive and ACE inhibitor available as diamond- shaped, white tablets in 2 strengths containing 10mg and 20mg of fosinopril sodium marked with star, 158 and SQUIBB and with star, 609 and SQUIBB, respectively.
Medical Uses
Heart failure, in combination with diuretic treatment, high blood pressure.
Dosage
Adults, 10mg once each day at first with this Also, being the usual maintenance dose. If necessary, increase dose carefully to maximum daily dose of 40mg, (after 4 weeks in cases of high blood pressure). If being used for high blood pressure, any diuretic should be stopped a few days before treatment starts but can be resumed after 4 weeks, if needed.
Special Care
Congestive heart failure, kidney or liver disorders, receiving dialysis, renovascular hypertension, depletion of fluid or salts.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Antacids, potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, lithium, NSAIDs, antihypertensives, desensitising therapy, high-flux dialysis membranes.
Known Side Effects
Chest, skeletal and muscle pains, rash, gastrointestinal upset, fatigue, dizziness, palpitations, cough, disturbance of sense of taste. If angioneurotic oedema occurs, withdraw drug.
