Stugeron
What is it?
An antihistamine preparation available as scored, white tablets marked JANSSEN S/15, containing 15mg of cinnarizine. Also, STUGERON FORTE, cream/orange capsules containing 75mg of cinnarizine.
Medical Uses
Stugeron, vestibular disorders (affecting organs of balance in inner ear), motion sickness. Stugeron Forte, peripheral vascular disorders including Raynaud's disease (a disorder of the circulation in which there is periodic interruption in the blood supply to outlying parts of the body, due to spasm in the small arteries involved, affecting fingers, toes, ears, nose), intermittent claudication (poor circulation to legs causing cramping pains).
Dosage
Stugeron, adults, vestibular disorders, 2 tablets 3 times each day; motion sickness, 2 tablets 2 hours before travelling then 1 tablet every 8 hours during journey. Stugeron Forte, adults, 1 capsule 3 times each day at first, then 1 capsule 2 to 3 times daily as maintenance dose.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, elderly, liver or kidney disorders, enlarged prostate gland, epilepsy, glaucoma, low blood pressure, Parkinson's disease. Patients should be warned not to drive or operate machinery due to possible drowsiness.
Avoid Use
Children.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Alcohol, anticholinergics, depressants of CNS.
Known Side Effects
Rash, drowsiness, anti cholinergic effects, allergic reactions, gastrointestinal upset, blood disorders, CNS effects.
