Suprax
What is it?
An antibiotic cephalosporin available as film-coated, scored white tablets containing 200mg of cefixime marked LL200 and SUPRAX Also, SUPRAX PAEDIATRIC SUSPENSION containing 100mg of cefixime per 5ml solution.
Medical Uses
Infections of urinary and respiratory tract.
Dosage
Adults, 200 to 400mg as single or 2 divided doses for 1 to 2 weeks. Children, aged 6 to 12 months, 3.75ml; aged 1 to 4 years, 5ml; aged 5 to 10 years, 10ml; aged over 10 years or weighing 50kg or more, 10 to 20ml. All as daily doses of paediatric suspension.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergy to 13-lactams, serious kidney disorders.
Avoid Use
Children under 6 months.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Anticoagulants.
Known Side Effects
Rashes, gastrointestinal up set, headache, dizziness. In rare cases, pseudomembranous colitis.
