What is it?
An antihistamine preparation of the arylalkylamine type, available as white, scored tablets containing 1mg of clemastine as hydrogen fumarate, marked TAVEGIL. Usedfor allergic rhinitis (runny, inflamed nose - hayfever), allergic skin reactions, nettle rash, angioneurotic oedema (widespread swelling due to fluid collection), allergic drug reactions.
Dosage
Adults, 1 tablet, taken at night and in the morning. Children aged 3 to 6 years, /z tablet; aged over 6 years, '/z to 1 tablet. All doses taken at night and in the morning.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, stomach ulcer causing narrowing, obstruction in pyloroduodenal region, glaucoma, obstructed neck of bladder, enlarged prostate gland, retention of urine.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Depressants of CNS, alcohol, MAOIs.
Known Side Effects
Sleepiness. In rare cases, stimulation of CNS, palpitations, dizziness, heartburn, gastrointestinal upset, weakness, rash, weariness, headache.
