Temgesic

What is it?

An analgesic, opiate and controlled drug, available as white tablets for placing under the tongue, in 2 strengths, containing 200µg and 400µg of buprenorphine as hydorchloride, marked with L or H and symbol. Also, TEMGESIC INJECTION, available as a solution in ampoules containing 300µg of buprenorphine as hydrochloride per.

Medical Uses

Moderate to severe pain.

Dosage

Adults, 200 to 400µg allowed to dissolve under tongue every 6 to 8 hours or as required. Injection, 300 to 600µg by slow intravenous or intramuscular injection every 6 to 8 hours or as needed. Children, weighing 16 to 25kg, 100µg; weighing 25 to 37.5kg, 100 to 200µg; weighing 37.5 to 50kg, 200 to 300µg, taken as for adult. Injection, aged over 6 months, 3 to 6µg per kg of body weight every 6 to 8 hours to a maximum of 9µg per kg.

Special Care

Pregnancy, labour, reduced breathing or liver function, dependence on narcotics or large doses previously.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Depressants of the CNS, MAOIs.

Nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, sweating.
