Teoptic

What is it?

A β-blocker available as eyedrops in 2 strengths containing 1% and 2% drops carteolol hydrochloride.

Medical Uses

High pressure within the eye, open-angle glaucoma and some forms of secondary glaucoma.

Dosage

Start with 1 drop of 1% solution in affected eye(s) twice each day. Use 2% solution if 1% is ineffective.

Special Care

Breastfeeding, 2nd or 3rd degree heart block, heart shock, diabetes, insufficiency of right ventricle due to congestive heart failure or pulmonary hypertension, sinus bradycardia (slow heartbeat).

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, insufficiency of heart function which is not controlled, asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), soft contact lenses.

Other 8-blockers.

Known Side Effects

Blurred vision, burning sensation, pain, irritation of the eye, vertigo, hyperaemia (greater than normal amount of blood in the vessels), discharge from eye, slow heartbeat, shortness of breath, effects on cornea and inflammation, headache, weariness, intolerance of light.
