Terra-Cortril

What is it?

A combined antibiotic and mild steroid available as an ointment containing 3% oxytetracycline, as hydrochloride and 1% hydrocortisone. Also, TERRA-CORTRIL NYSTA TIN, a cream as for the ointment but with addition of an antifungal as 100,000 units of nystatin.

Medical Uses

Ointment, infected eczema and dermatitis, infected intertrigo (dermatitis of skin surfaces in contact) - for up to 1 week, infected insect bites. Cream, infected skin conditions responsive to steroids.

Dosage

Adults, ointment and cream, apply 2 to 4 times per day.

Special Care

Should not be used on face or on children for more than 5 days. Should be stopped gradually.

Avoid Use

Children, prolonged or extensive use especially pregnant women or continual use as a preventative. Should not be used to treat acne, leg ulcers, scabies, pen-oral dermatitis, tuberculous skin conditions, skin disorders caused by viruses, ringworm, any untreated bacterial or fungal skin infections.

Known Side Effects

Thinning of skin, adrenal gland suppression, hair growth, Cushingoid type symptoms (Cushing's syndrome).
