Terramycin
What is it?
A tetracycline antibiotic, available as sugar-coated, yellow tablets containing 250mg of oxytetracycline marked Pfizer.
Medical Uses
Infections of the urinary and lower respiratory tracts and eyes, infections caused by Rickettsia bacteria, sexually transmitted infections, severe acne vulgaris and acne rosacea.
Dosage
Adults, 250 to 500mg 4 times each day.
Special Care
Liver or kidney disease.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breast- feeding.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Antacids, mineral supplements, methoxyflurane, milk, oral contraceptives.
Known Side Effects
Superinfections, allergic reactions, gastrointestinal upset, discoloured thyroid tissue, bulging of fontanelles in babies, effects on blood.
