Tertroxin

What is it?

A preparation of thyroid hormone available as scored white tablets containing 20µg of liothyronine sodium marked TERTROXIN.

Medical Uses

Severe thyroid deficiency, myxoedema coma.

Dosage

Adults, 10 to 20µg 8-hourly to start increasing after 7 days if required to 60µg each day in divided doses. For elderly and children, start with 5µg each day in divided doses.

Special Care

Breastfeeding, diabetes.

Avoid Use

Children, angina, cardiovascular problems.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Phenytoin, antico agulants, tricyclics, cholestyramine.

Known Side Effects

Rapid heartbeat, arrhythmias, restlessness, muscle cramps or weakness, anginal pain, flushes, headache, sweating, diarrhoea, weight loss, excitability.
