Tobi

What is it?

An anti-infective amino- glycoside preparation available as a solution in ampoules for use with nebuliser containing 60mg of tobramycin per ml. Used for. long-term treatment of chronic lung infection caused byP. aeruginosa in patients with cystic fibrosis.

Dosage

Adults and children aged over 6 years, using Par! LC plus nebuliser, 5ml twice each day for 28 days then 28 days without treatment. Continue this regime for as long as clinical benefit is maintained.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, patients with kidney neuromuscular, hearing or vestibular disorders, coughing up blood from respiratory tract (haemoptysis). Kidney function and hearing must be monitored during course of treatment.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Diuretics, mannitol, drugs which may cause toxicity to kidneys or organs of hearing and balance in ears, frusemide, urea, ethacrynic acid.

Known Side Effects

Alteration in voice, bronchospasm. in rare cases, tinnitus (ringing in ears).
