Tomudex

What is it?

An anti-cancer drug and folate analogue available as a powder in vials for reconstitution and injection containing 2mg of raltitrexed.

Medical Uses

Advanced cancer of the colon and rectum when some other drugs are not appropriate or tolerated.

Dosage

Adults, 3mg per metre' of body area given over 15 minutes by intravenous infusion; repeated every 3 weeks. Also, consult manufacturer's literature.

Special Care

Elderly, suppression of bone marrow, gatrointestinal and blood disorders. Liver enzymes, blood creatinine levels, bilirubin and FBC are checked before each treatment.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, seriously impaired liver or kidney function.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Folic acid, folinic acid.

Known Side Effects

Weakness, malaise, fever, sweating, dehydration, fluid retention, blood changes, increased enzyme levels, loss of weight, altered sense of taste, headaches, joint pains, conjunctivitis, rashes, pains, changes in muscle tone, infections.
