Toradol

What is it?

An NSAID available as a solution in ampoules for injection in 2 strengths, containing 10mg and 30mg per ml of ketorolae trometamol. Also, TORADOL TABLETS, film-coated, white tablets marked KET 10 containing 10mg of ketorolac trometamol.

Medical Uses

Short-term control of moder ate or severe post-operative pain.

Dosage

Adults and children aged over 16 years, injection, start with 10mg given by intravenous bolus injection or intramuscularly, then 10 to 30mg, 4 to 6 hourly to a maximum of 90mg daily, for 2 days. Elderly, same dose but to a maximum of 60mg daily for 2 days. Tablets, adults and children aged over 16 years, 1 tablet every 410 6 hours to a maximum of 4 each day, for up to 7 days. If following injections, 90mg maximum dose on day 1 and 40mg thereafter. Elderly, 1 tablet 6 to 8- hourly for up to 7 days. Maximum dose after injections 60mg on day 1 and then 40mg.

Special Care

Elderly, heart, liver, kidney or allergic disease, haemostasis, gastrointestinal disease.

Avoid Use

Children aged under 16 years, pregnancy, breastfeeding allergy to aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs, stomach ulcer, angioneurotic oedema (widespread, painless swelling), asthma, blood coagulation disorders, moderate to severe kidney disorders, inherited tendency for bleeding disorders, gastrointestinal or cerebrovascular bleeding, low volume of circulating blood, dehydration, polyps in nose, patients at high risk of haemorrhage induced by surgery, use before or during surgery.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

NSAIDs, oxypentifylline, anticoagulants, probenecid, lithium, methotrexate, frusemide, aspirin.

Known Side Effects

Ulcers, wound haemorrhage, gastrointestinal upset, fluid retention, acute kidney failure, heart, circulatory, kidney, CNS and respiratory disturbances, weakness, pain at site of injection, hepatitis, abnormal liver function tests, liver failure, allergic reactions, skin effects.
