Transtec cd
What is it?
An analgesic, opiate and controlled drug available as skin patches in 3 strengths delivering 35µg, 52.5µg and 70µg per hour.
Medical Uses
Moderate to severe pain, especially that not responsive to other analgesics.
Dosage
Adults, patients not used to opiods, start with 1x35µg patch; others accustomed to opiods, use patch dose most appropriate to previous medication. Also, consult manufacturer's literature. Patches should be applied to non-hairy, clean area of skin on chest or back and changed every 72 hours, using fresh site.
Special Care
Head injured patients, impaired liver function, fits, fever, shock, impaired level of consciousness, fever, raised pressure within skull, alcohol intoxication.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breast- feeding, delerium tremens, dependent on opiods, myasthenia gravis, severely depressed respiration.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Inducers or inhibitors of CYP3A4, MAOIs, depressants of the CNS.
Known Side Effects
Shortness of breath, reddening of skin, itching, sweating, headaches, tiredness, gastrointestinal upset, dizziness. Any adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
