Tri-Adcortyl Otic

What is it?

A combined corticosteroid, antibiotic and antifungal preparation available as an ointment containing 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide, 0.25% neomycin, as sulphate, 0.025% gramicidin and 100,000 units per gram of nystatin. Also, TRI-ADCORTYL, cream and ointment containing same components

Medical Uses

Tri-Adeortyl Otic, inflammation of the outer ear sensitive to corticosteroids with accompanying infections caused by micro-organisms responsive to the anti-infective agents in the ointment. Tri-Adcortyl cream and ointment, skin conditions sensitive to corticosteroids with accompanying infections sensitive to ant-infective components.

Dosage

Adults and children aged over 12 months, Otic, apply into outer ear 2 (rarely 3) times each day and stop using if there is no improvement after 1 week. Cream and ointment, apply to affected skin 2 (rarely 3) times each day and stop using if there is no improvement after 1 week.

Special Care

With Otic, pregnancy, patients with loss of hearing. Should not be used on face or on children for more than 5 days. Should be stopped gradually.

Avoid Use

With Otic, perforated ear drum. Prolonged or extensive use especially in pregnant women or continual use as a preventative. Should not be used to treat acne, leg ulcers, scabies, pen-oral dermatitis, tuberculous skin conditions, skin disorders caused by viruses, ringworm, any untreated bacterial or fungal skin infections.

Known Side Effects

Thinning of skin, adrenal gland suppression, hair growth, Cushingoid type symptoms (Cush- jug's syndrome). With Otic, toxicity of organs of hearing and balance and kidneys.
