Triam-Co
What is it?
An antihypertensive preparation and potassium-sparing, thiazide diuretic available as scored, peach-coloured tablets containing 50mg of tritimtrene and 25mg of hydrochlorothiezide (co-triamterzide), marked with name and logo.
Medical Uses
Mild to modertae high blood pressure, fluid retention.
Dosage
Adults, high blood pressure, start with 1 tablet each day; fluid retention, start with 1 tablet twic each day taken after meals then reduce to usual dose of 1 daily or 2, taken every other day. the maximum daily dose is 4 tablets.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, impaired liver or kidney function, gout, acidosis, diabtetes.
Avoid Use
Children, kidney failure, high blood potassium or calcium levels, Addison's disease, worsening liver disease, diabetic ketoacidusis.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Potassium-sparing diuretics or supplements, ACE inhibitors, corticosteroids, lithium, NSAIDs, antihypertensives.
Known Side Effects
Rash, high calcium and sugar levels in blood, dry mouth, gastrintestinal upset, cramps, headaches, weakness, falling blood pressure. In rare cases, blood changes, reversible kidney failure, SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus).
