What is it?

A carbonic anhydrase inhibitor available as eye drops containing 25 dorzolamide as hydrochloride.

Medical Uses

Either with or without Iblockers in open-angle or pseudo-exfoliative glaucoma, high pressure within eye.

Dosage

Adults, as sole therapy, 1 drop 3 times each day; in conjunction with β-blockers, 1 drop twice each day.

Special Care

History of kidney stones, closed angle glaucoma, previous eye surgery, chronic defects of cornea, impaired liver function, allergy to sulfonamides.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, hyperchloraemic acidosis, seriously impaired liver function, soft contact lenses (leave at least 15 minute interval before inserting).

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Other eye drops - leave at least a 10-minute interval before inserting.

Known Side Effects

Blurred vision, nausea, bitter taste in mouth, weakness, stinging, dizziness, headache, numbness/ tingling pins and needles' sensation, rash, nose bleeds, kidney stones, allergy, detached choroid, angioedema (widespread soft tissue swelling).
