Ubretid
What is it?
An anticholinesterase preparation, available as scored, white tablets containing 5mg of distigmine bromide marked UBRETID.
Medical Uses
Intestinal and ileal weakness after operations, myasthenia gravis, post-operative urine retention, neurogenic bladder (bladder disorder caused by a lesion of the nervous system).
Dosage
Adults, prevention of ileus and intestinal atony after surgery, 1 tablet each day taken 30 minutes before breakfast; myasthenia gravis same initial starting dose, increasing at 3 to 1 day intervals to a maximum daily dose of 4 tablets. Post-operative bladder conditions, 1 tablet taken half an hour before breakfast each day or 1 tablet taker every second day. Children, myasthenia gravis only, up to 2 tablets each day
Special Care
Asthma, heart disease, epilepsy, Parkinsonism, stomach ulcer abnormal increase in activity of thc vagus nerve (vagotonia) causing symptoms affecting heart/ fainting.
Avoid Use
Pregnancy, post-operativ shock, asthma, obstruction in intestines or urinary tract, weak circulation
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Depolarizing muscle relaxants.
Known Side Effects
Increased salivation gastrointestinal upsets.
