What is it?
A dopamine agonist available as red tablets in 2 strengths to be placed under the tongue, containing apomorphine hydrochloride; pentagonal-shaped contain 2mg and triangular-shaped contain 3mg.
Medical Uses
Erectile dysfunction in men. (Available on NHS only if certain circumstances apply).
Dosage
Men, lx2mg strength tablet beneath tongue 20 minutes before sexual activity; if necessary, increase to 3mg tablet on next occasion. An interval of 8 hours should elapse between doses. Success rate improves after a minimum of 4x3mg doses.
Special Care
Elderly, low blood pressure on rising upright, uncontrolled high blood pressure, seriously impaired kidney or liver function, deformity of penis.
Avoid Use
Children, women, recent heart attack, low blood pressure, serious unstable angina, severe heart failure.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Other drugs used for this condition, nitrates, dopamine agonists and antagonists that act centrally, alcohol, drugs used to treat high blood pressure.
Known Side Effects
Irritated, stuffy nose, sweating, infection, sleepiness, nausea, dizziness, pharyngitis, altered sense of taste, yawning, headache, cough, pain.
