What is it?

A quinolone antibiotic preparation, available as a suspension containing 300mg of nalidixic acid per 5ml.

Medical Uses

Infections of the gastrointestinal tract caused by Gram-negative organisms, urinary tract infections.

Dosage

Adults, gastrointestinal tract infections, 10 to 15ml4 times each day; UTI, acute infections, 15ml 4 times each day; chronic, 10ml4 times daily. Children over 3 months 1ml per kg of body weight each day. Contact manufacturer regarding children aged under 3 months.

Special Care

Severely malfunctioning kidneys, liver disease; do not go out in sun, if avoidable.

Avoid Use

Past convulsions.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Probenecid, anticoagulants.

Rash, blood changes, fits, disturbances in vision, gastrointestinal upset.
