Ursofalk

What is it?

A bile acid available as white capsules containing 250mg of ursodeoxycholic acid. Also, URSOFALK SUSPENSION, containing 250mg of ursodeoxycholic acid per 5ml.

Medical Uses

Primary biliary cirrhosis, dissolving cholesterol gallstones that are radiolucent.

Dosage

Adults and children, biliary cirrhosis, 10 to 15mg per kg of body weight each day in 2, 3 or 4 divided doses. Gallstones, 8 to 12mg per kg of body weight each day in 2 divided doses, taken after meals of which one must be the evening meal. Use until 2 consecutive tests have not detected gallstones.

Avoid Use

Gallstones that are radio- opaque, gall bladder that is not functioning, women who are not using contraception.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Aluminium based antacids, oral contraceptives, oestrogens, cholestyramine, charcoal, cyclosporin, colestipol, fibrates.

Known Side Effects

In rare cases, diarrhoea.
