What is it?

An antihistamine preparation available as scored, white tablets containing 50mg of cyclizine hydrochloride, marked WELLCOME T4A. Also, VALOID INJECTION, a solution containing 50mg of cyclizine lactate per ml.

Medical Uses

Nausea and vomiting caused by narcotic pain relieving drugs, radiotherapy, anaesthetics; Also, due to vertigo and disorders of organs of balance, motion sickness. Also, to prevent vomiting during surgery.

Dosage

Adults, 50mg 3 times each day either by mouth or by intravenous or intramuscular injection. Prevention of nausea following surgery, 50mg by slow intravenous infusion 20 minutes before operation finishes. Prevention of vomiting during surgery, 25mg intravenously before anaesthesia. Children, aged 6 to 12 years, 25mg by mouth up to 3 times each day.

Special Care

Breastfeeding, elderly, liver or kidney disorders, enlarged prostate gland, epilepsy, glaucoma, low blood pressure, Parkinson's disease. Patients should be warned not to drive or operate machinery due to possible drowsiness.

Avoid Use

Pregnancy, serious heart failure.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Alcohol, anticholinergics, depressants of CNS.

Known Side Effects

Rash, drowsiness, anticholinergic effects, allergic reactions, gastrointestinal upset, blood disorders, CNS effects.
