What is it?
A class 1 calcium antagonist available as sustained-release, film- coated, light green, scored, capsule- shaped tablets containing 240mg of verapamil hydrochloride.
Medical Uses
Angina, mild to moderate high blood pressure.
Dosage
Adults, angina, 1 tablet twice each day; high blood pressure, ltablet daily, increasing, if necessary after at least 1 week to 1 tablet taken each morning and evening.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, impaired kidney or liver function, lstb degree heart block. Weak heart should be treated with diuretics and digitalis.
Avoid Use
Children, low blood pressure, uncompensated heart failure, heart attack, heart shock, 2nd or 3rd degree AV heart block, sick sinus syndrome, severe slow heartbeat, S-A heart block.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Lithium, neuromuscular blockers, β-blockers, cyclosporin, rifampicin, anaesthetics, quinidine, carbamazepine, digoxin, phenytoin, theophylline, grapefruit juice.
Known Side Effects
Slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, constipation, dizziness, fatigue, heart arrhythmias, flushes.
