Vexol
What is it?
A corticosteroid preparation available as eye drops containing 1% rimexolone.
Medical Uses
Various inflammatory conditions of the eye that are responsive to steroids, inflammation arising after surgery.
Dosage
Adults, post-operative treatment, 1 drop into conjunctival sac 4 times each day beginning 24 hours after operation on eye, continuing for 2 weeks. Conditions responsive to steroids, 1 drop into conjunctival sac at least 4 times each day, continuing for up to 4 weeks. Uveitis, 1 drop each hour during day for 1st week, then 2 hourly for 2nd week, then 4 times each day for 3rd week. In 4th week, 1 drop twice each day for 4 days and then 1 drop daily for final 3 days.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding. Intraocular pressure must be carefully monitored and long-term use avoided.
Avoid Use
Bacterial, fungal or viral infections of the eye.
Known Side Effects
Raised intraoccular pressure, pain, discomfort, short-lived blurring of vision, discharge, feeling of foreign object in eye. All adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
