What is it?
A preparation of inactivated surface antigen and inactivated virus available as a solution in pre-prepared syringes containing 25µg per 0.5ml of purified Vi capsular polysaccharide of Salmonella typhi and 160 antigen units per 0.5ml of inactivated hepatitis A vaccine.
Medical Uses
Immunisation against typhoid fever and hepatitis A.
Dosage
Adults and children aged over 16 years, primary immunisation, 1ml by slow intramuscular injection into deltoid muscle of shoulder. A booster for hepatitis a should be given after 6 to 12 months and a further vaccination for typhoid (with Vi polysaccharide) should be given every 3 years.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding.
Avoid Use
Children aged under 16 years, acute feverish illness.
Known Side Effects
Pain/reaction at injection site, headache, malaise, gastrointestinal upset, fever, muscle and joint pain, weakness. Any adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
