Viread
What is it?
An antiretroviral drug and nucleotide analogue available as film- coated, almond-shaped, light blue tablets containing 245mg of tenofovir disoproxil as fumerate marked GILEAD 4331 and 300.Used for with other retrovirals to treat HIV infected patients with virological failure.
Dosage
Adults, 1 tablet each day taken with food.
Special Care
Elderly, pregnancy, impaired liver or kidney function, low levels of phosphate in blood. Kidney function should be monitored before treatment starts and every month during treatment.
Avoid Use
Children, breastfeeding, se riously impaired kidney function.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Nucleoside analogues, didanosine, certain drugs excreted by kidneys, drugs toxic to kidneys.
Known Side Effects
Low phosphate levels in blood, gastrointestinal upset. Any adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
