Vistide

What is it?

An anti-AIDs drug and DNA polymerise inhibitor available as a solution in vials for injection containing 75mng of cidofovir per ml.

Medical Uses

To treat CMV retinitis in AIDs patients, in combination with probenecid, where other treatments cannot be used.

Dosage

According to manufacturer's literature; given by intravenous infusion.

Special Care

Diabetes. Eye tests and monitoring of kidney function and white cell counts are regularly required.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, impaired kidney function. Must not be given as eye drops.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Zidovudine, kidney toxic drugs.

Known Side Effects

Weakness, nausea, disturbance to hearing, rash, hair loss, potentially fatal kidney failure, pancreatitis, increase in serum creatinine levels, neutropenia (decreased levels of neutrophils-white blood cells), protein in urine.
