Xalacom

What is it?

A combined prostaglandin and β-blocker available as eye drops containing 0.005% latanoprost and 0.55% timolol maleate.

Medical Uses

Open angle glaucoma, high pressure within eye that do not adequately respond to topical β-blockers alone.

Dosage

Adults, 1 drop into affected eye(s) once each day in morning.

Special Care

Certain other forms of glau coma and eye disorders, toxicity of thyroid gland, diabetes. Allow at least 5 minutes before using other eye preparations.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, asthma, 2nd or 3rd degree heart block, uncompensated heart failure, heart shock, severe obstructive airways disease, slow heartbeat.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Parasympathomimetics, antiarrhythmics, cardiac glycosides, calcium antagonists, antihypertensives, other topical eye preparations and glaucoma treatments.

Known Side Effects

Feeling of foreign particle in eye, blurring of vision, darkening of eye, short-lived epithelial erosion, other eye effects, curling and darkening of lashes and skin, worsening of asthma, breathlessness. Any adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
