Xefo

What is it?

An NSAID available as film- coated, white, oval tablets in 2 strengths containing 4mg and 8mg of lornoxicam, marked L04 and L08, respectively. Also, XEFO INJECTION, available as powder in vials containing 8mg of lornoxicam.

Medical Uses

Acute sciatica, osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis, moderate post-operative pain.

Dosage

Adults, tablets, osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis, 12mg each day in 2 to 3 divided doses; other conditions, 8 to 16mg each day to a daily maximum of 16mg and a single maximum dose of 8mg. Injection, 8 to 16mg each day given intravenously over 15 seconds or intramuscularly over 5 sec onds, to a daily maximum of 16mg (exceptionally, 24mg on first day) and a maximum single dose of 8mg. treatment should not continue for more than 2 days.

Special Care

Mild to moderately impaired kidney function, disorders of blood coagulation, previous gastrointestinal ulcers or bleeding, obesity, high blood pressure, liver disorders. Blood coagulation, haematology and liver enzymes should be monitored when necessary.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, severely impaired kidneys, stomach ulcer. With injection, elderly, haemorrhage risk, haemorrhage with diathesis, impaired kidney function, severly impaired liver or heart function, low circulating blood volume, risk of cerebrovascular bleeding.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

NSAIDs, digoxin, anticoagulants, lithium, methotrexate, cimetidine, sulphonylureas, diuretics. with injection, ACE inhibitors, β-blockers.

Known Side Effects

Dizziness, headache, gastrointestinal upset. With injection, pain and reactions at injection site, fatigue and sleepiness. Any adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the safety of Medicines (CSM).
