Xylocaine
What is it?
A local anaesthetic available as a solution in vials in 3 strengths containing 0.5%, 1% and 2% lignocaine hydrochloride with adrenaline. Also, XYLOCAINE 4% TOPICAL, a solution containing 4% lignocaine hydrochloride. Also, XYLOCAINE PUMP SPRAY, delivering 10mg of lignocaine per dose.
Medical Uses
Xylocaine, infiltration anaesthesia, nerve blocks. Xylocaine 4% Topical, surface anaesthesia; Also, for odontologv, bronchoscopy, analgesia in oropharyngeal region. Xylocaine Spray, surface analgesia in ENT surgery, dentistry, obstetrics.
Dosage
Xylocaine, adults, according to site and response to a maximum of 500mg as a single dose. Children, in proportion to adults. Xylocaine 4% Topical, adults, up to 7.5ml - consult manufacturer's literature. Children, in proportion to adult dose and Also, dependent upon age and body weight. Xylocaine Pump Spray, adults, a maximum of 20 sprays; children, in proportion to dose for adults.
Special Care
Impaired heart or liver function, epilepsy, severe shock.
Avoid Use
Cardiovascular disease if adrenaline is used, any surgery of the extremities, toxic thyroid gland.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
With adrenaline, antiarrhythmics, MAOIs, other anaesthetic preparations, TCADs.
