Zaditen

What is it?

An antiallergic agent, mast cell stabiliser antihistamine preparation available as white, scored tablets containing 1mg of ketotifen as hydrogen fumarate, marked ZADITEN 1. Also, ZADITEN CAPSULES, white capsules containing 1mg of ketotifen as hydrogen fumerate, marked CS. Also, ZADITEN ELIXIR, a sugar-freefluid containing 1mg of ketotifen as hydrogen fumerate per 5ml.

Medical Uses

Prevention of bronchial asthma, allergies including rhinitis and conjunctivitis.

Dosage

Adults, 1 to 2mg twice each day with food. Children, aged over 3 years, 1mg twice each day with food. Not for children under 2 years.

Special Care

Epilepsy. Drug should be gradually withdrawn over 2 to 4 weeks.

Avoid Use

Children aged under 3 years, pregnancy, breastfeeding.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Antihistamines, oral hypoglycaemics, alcohol, depressants of the CNS.

Known Side Effects

Dry mouth, weight gain, dizziness, stimulation of CNS, drowsiness, affected reactions. In rare cases, fits, increased liver enzymes, hepatitis, severe skin reactions, cystitis.
