Zamadol SR
What is it?
An analgesic, opiate analogue available as sustained-release capsules in 4 strengths all containing tramadol hydrochloride, dark green, contain 50mg; white, contain 100mg; dark green, contain 150mg; yellow, contain 200mg. All marked with strength and TSR. Also, ZAMADOL, white capsules containing 50mg of tramadol hydrochloride. Also, ZAMADOL INJECTION, a solution in ampoules containing 50mg of tramadol hydrochloride per ml.
Medical Uses
Moderate to severe pain.
Dosage
Adults, Zamadol SR, 50 to 100mg to start twice each day then increase dose to 150 to 200mg twice each day, if needed. The daily maximum is 400mg. Zamadol, 1 or 2 capsules every 4 to 6 hours to a daily maximum of 8.Injection, 50 to 100mg by slow intravenous injection or intramuscular injection every 4 to 6 hours to a daily maximum of 600mg.
Special Care
Elderly, head injury, depression of respiration, previous fits, history of drug abuse or dependence, raised pressure within skull, severely impaired kidney or liver function.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
SSRIs, depressants of CNS, alcohol, TCADs, carbamazepine, MAOIs.
Known Side Effects
Itching, allergic reactions, nettlerash, effects on CNS, profuse sweating, gastrointestinal upset. In rare cases, fainting, flushing, fits, rash, blurred vision, difficulty/disorder in passing urine, depressed respiration, effects on heart circulation, anaphylaxis, blood changes, depression and anguish, dependence.
