Zanidip

What is it?

An antihypertensive and Class II calcium antagonist available as film-coated, yellow tablets containing 10mg of lercanidipine hydrochloride.

Medical Uses

Mild to moderate high blood pressure.

Dosage

Adults, 1 each day taken at least a quarter of an hour before a meal. If necessary, increase to 2 tablets each day.

Special Care

Dysfunction of left ventricle of heart, sick sinus syndrome, ischaemic heart disease.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, recent heart attack, congestive heart failure that is not being treated, obstruction of left ventricle outflow, angina that is not stabilised, severely impaired kidney or liver function.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Erythromycin, digoxin, terfenadine, rifampicin, β-blockers, cimetidine, carbamazepine, cimetidine, azole antifungals, fluoxetine, phenytoin, astemizole, grapefruit juice.

Known Side Effects

Headache, rapid heartbeat, weakness, dizziness, flushes, fluid re tention in hands and feet.
