Zarontin

What is it?

A succinimide and anticonvulsant available as soft gelatin, clear, light yellow oblong capsules containing 250mg of ethosuximide. Also, ZARONTIN SYRUP, containing 250mg of ethosuximide per 5ml.

Medical Uses

Absence seizures.

Dosage

Adults and children aged over 6 years, 500mg each day, increasing as required by 250mg increments at 4 to 7 day intervals, to a maximum of 2g per day. Children, aged under 6 years, 250mg each day to start, adjusted in small amounts according to response.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, impaired liver or kidney function. Withdrawal should be gradual.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Other anticonvulsants.

Known Side Effects

Gastric upset, disturbance to CNS, rashes, blood disorders, SLE.
