Zeffix

What is it?

A nucleoside analogue available as film-coated, capsule- shaped, orange tablets containing 100mg of lamivudine, marked GX CGS. Also, ZEFFIX ORAL SOLUTION, containing 5mg of lamivudine per ml.

Medical Uses

Chronic hepatitis B and evidence of viral replication in patients with liver disease, inflammation and fibrosis.

Dosage

Adults and children aged over 16 years, 100mg once each day. Manufacturer's literature should Also, be consulted for length of treatment period.

Special Care

Advanced liver disease, HIV patients, transplants, impaired kidney function. ALT levels must be monitored every 12 weeks.

Avoid Use

Children aged under 16 years, 1st 3 months of pregnancy.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Sulphamethoxazole, trimethroprim, zalcitabine.

Known Side Effects

Headache, pains in abdomen, fatigue, malaise, gastrointestinal upset, respiratory tract infections, elevated levels of ALT and CPK (enzymes).
