Zimovane
What is it?
An anxiolytic and cyclopyrrolone available as film-coated tablets in 2 strengths, both containing zopiclone. Blue, contain 3.75mg, marked Z and white, contain 7.5mg marked ZM.
Medical Uses
Insomnia, short-term treatment only especially when severe and debilitating.
Dosage
1x7.5mg tablet at bedtime. Elderly, 1x3.75mg tablet at bedtime to start, increasing dose if necessary. Maximum period of treatment is 1 month.
Special Care
Insufficient liver or kidney function; patients should be checked for withdrawal symptoms on completing treatment.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, severely impaired liver function, respiratory failure, severe sleep apnoea (a condition in which person momentarily stops breathing during sleeping), myasthenia gravis.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Trimipramine, alco hol, other depressants of the CNS.
Known Side Effects
Gastrointestinal upset, metallic aftertaste, allergic reactions, psychological changes. In rare cases, lack of co-ordination, lightheadedness.
