Zomacton

What is it?

A preparation of growth hormone available as apowder in vials with diluent containing 4mg of somatropin (rbe), for use with Zomajet 2 or autoJector device.

Medical Uses

Failure of growth in children due to deficiency of growth hormone, Turner's syndrome.

Dosage

Children only, growth failure, 0.17 to 0.23mg per kg of body weight each week given subcutaneously in 6 or 7 injections, the maximum weekly dose is 0.27mg per kg of body weight. Turner's syndrome, 0.33mg per kg of body weight each week divided between 6 to 7 subcutaneous injections.

Special Care

deficiency of ACTH, brain lesion, diabetes, thyroid gland function must be monitored.

Avoid Use

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, tumour, use after fusion of epiphyses (ends of long bones which normally fuse when childhood growth is completed).

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Oestrogens, androgens, glucocorticoids, anabolic steroids.

Known Side Effects

Reactions at injection site, fluid retention, headaches, underactive thyroid, benign raised pressure within skull.
