Zomorph cd

What is it?

An analgesic and opiate preparation and controlled drug available as capsules enclosing sustained- release pellets in 4 strengths, all containing morphine sulphate. Clear/yellow, contain 10mg; clear/pink, contain 30mg; clear/orange, contain 60mg; clear/white, contain 100mg. All are marked with strength.

Medical Uses

Chronic and severe pain.

Dosage

Adults, 10 to 30mg every 12 hours with dose adjusted to control pain for whole 12 hour period. Capsules can be swallowed or pellets mixed with food or given by feeding tube.

Special Care

Elderly, breastfeeding, use post-operatively, chronic kidney and liver disease, underactive thyroid gland, low respiratory reserve, shock, insufficiency of adrenal (cortex) glands.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, head injury, high pressure on brain, depressed respiration, convulsions, obstructive airways disease, acute liver diseases, acute alcoholism.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Depressants of CNS, MAOIs.

Known Side Effects

Gastrointestinal upset, sedation. Tolerance and dependence may develop.
