Zydol SR

What is it?

An analgesic and opiate analogue available as sustained-release, film-coated tablets in 3 strengths containing tramadol hydrochloride. White, contain 100mg, beige, contain 150mg; orange, contain 200mg. Also, ZYDOL CAPSULES, yellow/green capsules containing 50mg of tramadol hydrochloride. Also, ZYDOL SOLUBLE, scored, white, soluble tablets for adding to water containing 50mg of tramadol hydrochloride marked with T4 and logo. Also, ZYDOL XL, sustained-release, film-coated, white tablets in 4 strengths containing 150mg, 200mg, 300mg and 400mg of tramadol hydrochloride, all marked with strength and T. Also, ZYDOL INJECTION, a solution in ampoules containing 50mg of tramadol hydrochloride per ml.

Medical Uses

Moderate to severe pain.

Dosage

Adults, Zydol SR, 100mg twice each day in morning and evening to start; if necessary, dose can be gradually increased to 150mg or 200mg twice each day. Capsules, 1 or 2 capsules every 4 hours to start, then, if necessary, same dose with reduced interval to maximum daily dose of 8 capsules. Zydol soluble, 1 02 tablets dissolved in water every 4 hours to start, then, if necessary, same dose with reduced interval to maximum daily dose of 8 tablets. Zydol XL, 150mg once each day to start, gradually increasing dose until pain is controlled. Injection, 50 to 100mg by intravenous or intramuscular injection every 4 to 6 hours, with 600mg as maximum daily dose.

Special Care

Elderly, depressed respiration, previous fits, drug abuse or dependence, head injury, raised pressure on brain, seriously impaired liver or kidney function.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, breast- feeding.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Depressants of CNS, TCADs, digoxin, alcohol, MAOIs, ritonavir, carbamazepine, SSRIs.

Known Side Effects

Sweating, dry mouth, gastrointestinal upset, dizziness. In rare cases, effects on CNS and heart circulation, rash, muscle weakness, allergic responses, headaches, depression of respiration, raised liver enzymes, slow heartbeat, blurring of vision, disorders of urination, fits, anaphylaxis, changes in appetite, rise in blood pressure.
